Our first college graduates from Luang Prabang Orphanage
Maost of the graduates from the orphanage school, Numbuk school and Suan Luang are to poor to attend college. Sadly, higher education was not an option for most of them. When i started supporting these projects, I realized that if these poor children returned to live in poverty in their villages, we had not really freed them from poverty. We had not broken the cycle.
In 2011, I initiated the first scholarship program and offered all the graduates a chance to continue their education in Luang Prabang. 33 out of 36 students enrolled in the program and the 10 students pictured (above) were the first graduates. A college degree gives these students a chance to work with the government or in private enterprise and enables many of these students to earn a salary and build a prosperous future where they can earn a constant salary and support a family.
Since 2011 we have enrolled over 1200 orphanage school graduates into full scholarships.
The full scholarship costs just $US670 per year and pays for their food, education, accommodation and medical needs for a whole year. Courses are between 2 and 4 years.
If you, or someone that you know can sponsor a student, please contact me at andrew@supportlaochildren.com
For each sponsor, I will send a student profile and photo of the student and send letter from your student every 3 months so that you can follow their progress for the duration of their courses.
